About us
In 1972, a group of firefighters recognised the need to support each other beyond the call of duty. Thus, Fire Service Credit Union – FSCU – was born as a way to provide financial assistance and stability to those who bravely put their lives on the line for others. This founding principle still resonates strongly within the Credit Union today.
With membership exclusively for Fire and Emergency Services employees and their families, Fire Service Credit Union can focus just on the needs of the firefighter and their family without shareholder or other conflict. Our members value a familiar face or voice they can trust to have their best interests at heart.
Fire Service Credit Union is one of the few ‘closed bond’ Credit Unions left in Australia and the only one left in South Australia. Unashamedly and proudly local, the credit union has a South Australian headquarters, with all Staff, Directors and most of its members based in SA.
The FSCU office initially resided in the Fire Service Fund building at 20 Chancery Lane before relocating to the ground floor of 22 Chancery Lane in 1985. Keeping up with the times, in January 1982 the credit union transferred to on-line computer system. In 2014, spurred by expansion and a growing team, the office moved upstairs to Level 1, to accommodate this growth and increasing staff numbers. As services improved, membership continued to grow steadily.
To contribute to firefighter wellbeing, FSCU supports annual events like the Fire Service Children’s Christmas parties and the annual retirement social, other social and fundraising events throughout the year, and also assisting new recruits and with mess funds. FSCU enjoys working collaboratively with other fire service organisations such as the Fire Service Fund. It is this comraderie and teamwork that sets FSCU apart.
